What if learning to love yourself is a radical political statement?

Updated: Dec 16, 2022

The society we live in doesn’t want us to love ourselves. Our western capitalist society wants us to hate ourselves, so we feel shame, and buy into diets, detoxes, cleanses, and exercise equipment, accept cruelty and abuse, and don’t demand change. These concepts are so ingrained in our brains, thanks to the messages we get from all angles and media outlets, we often aren’t even aware of how these insidious forces work. But when we choose to radically love ourselves, we are rejecting everything we’ve been taught to hate in ourselves. We are forging a new and loving path to happiness.

‘Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation and that is an act of political warfare.’ Audre Lorde

‘In a society that profits from your self-doubt, liking yourself is a rebellious act.’ Caroline Caldwell

Every important historical social change occurred because people used freedom of mind to reject society’s messaging that they were inferior.
