Jess Allen

Hello, I’m Jess! I have been fascinated by human psychology and the mystical side of life ever since I was in high school. I have called Seattle home for the last nine years. Previously, I lived in Washington, D.C. and New York. I am a Buddhist psychology practitioner and daily meditator. I’m proudly queer and affirming of all identities that have been historically marginalized. Music festivals and concerts are my happiest places, and I spend a lot of my free time outside, exercising, dancing, playing Dungeons and Dragons, and hanging out with my family.
I got my bachelor’s degree in psychology from George Washington University and my master’s degree in counseling from Seattle University. I have volunteered my time as a crisis counselor for The Trevor Project, and I develop transformational relationships with teens as a part-time school counselor. I am trained in restorative practices and have facilitated healing circles at music festivals in the PNW.
My therapeutic approach is strengths-based, trauma-informed, culturally responsive, anti-racist, and tailored to your individual needs. I integrate existential therapy, attachment theory, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Narrative therapy, Solution Focused therapy, parts work, Buddhist psychology, mindfulness, polyvagal theory, your spirituality, and other evidence-based approaches to support healing and personal growth.
I have many years of high school counseling experience, which informs my work with teens. Therapy with teenage clients involves helping them skillfully navigate their inner world of thoughts and emotions, teaching and practicing executive functioning and emotional regulation skills, addressing barriers to academic achievement, treating social and relationship concerns, and discovering interests and passions that connect to future studies or careers. I am passionate about supporting youth on their unique journeys and helping them discover their intuition, hope for the future, and inner motivation so they feel empowered to face life’s challenges head-on.
With adults, I thrive when supporting people who love attending concerts and festivals. I have been attending live band and electronic shows for the past 15 years, and I know how transformative these experiences are. I specialize in helping the psychonauts: those who explore expanded states of consciousness and who seek out mystical and spiritual experiences. Whether you are starting a meditation practice, coping with being highly sensitive, or integrating psychedelic experiences, I would be honored to walk with you as you develop new insights about your life and move forward confidently in making changes in alignment with your highest self.
I believe that healing means learning to embrace change, and that healing happens in the context of supportive relationships. Life is wholly impermanent, and we must make good use of the time that we have. It would be a privilege to support you on the path to becoming the best version of yourself. Please reach out for a consultation to discuss beginning a therapeutic relationship!
Quotes:
“The more we show up for ourselves, the more we can show up for the world.”
“All of our internal challenges, the most neurotic and gnarly stuff, that’s really your
beauty. That’s what you can leverage for your own awakening, if you have a practice to embrace it.”
- Fleet Maul [interviewed by Dan Harris]
“Nature loves courage. You make the commitment, and nature will respond to that
commitment by removing impossible obstacles. Dream the impossible dream, and the world will not grind you under; it will lift you up. This is the trick. This is what all these teachers and philosophers who really counted, who really touched the alchemical gold, this is what they understood. This is the shamanic dance in the waterfall. This is how magic is done. By hurling yourself into the abyss and discovering it’s a feather bed.”
